Mount Kilimanjaro is 5,896m high. It is not only the highest peak on the African continent, but is also counted as the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. It gives you magnificent views over the vast plains and surrounding mountains such as Mount Meru. Kilimanjaro is located in the northern part of Tanzania, close to the border Kenyan border. During your mountain tour, you will pass 5 different vegetation zones – all of which are protected. The ecosystem is thus full of beauty and variety.

5 zones of Mount Kilimanjaro
The land of this region is mostly used for the production of bananas, wine and the best coffee in Africa.
In this zone you will find the thick forest and diverse flora and fauna. You might spot monkeys, the rarely seen olive baboons, leopards, mongooses, elephants, bushbabies, black rhinoceroses, giraffes and buffaloes. The climate is mild and rainy.
The temperatures can reach over 40 Celsius during the day and in the night can drop below 0 Celsius. The weather is usually windy and cloudy. Giant heather, wild grasses, fields of wildflowers and rocky trails characterize this zone.
This region is a volcanic area and looks like a desert. There is barely any rain and plants but burning sunshine and sub-zero temperatures. Especially the nights and early morning can be frosty.
The lower section of this zone is made up of scree. The closer you get to the summit the more ice will begin to appear. The rim is located beside a massive glacier to Uhuru peak. On top of the mountain you will see the peak of Mawenzi and on the horizon the North of Kenya.
