The volunteer hostel is in Sakina, a safe neighborhood in Arusha. You will be living together with other volunteers and interns as well as our hostel guests.
The hostel is conveniently located with easy access to public and private transport, and close to the centre of town. There is a swimming pool as well as a terrace and a roof top with comfortable chairs where you can sit and relax. The hostel has a secure two-meter-high wall, two guard dogs, a daytime watchman and a night guard, to ensure safety.
We also offer the option to stay with local host families. Living as a part of a Tanzanian family is a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture. You will be treated as a member of the family, and will experience local living conditions and cultural differences, with the help and support of a family. All host families are located in safe neighbourhoods. You will have your own key for your room, the house and the front gate. And all members of our host families speak English.
There are three shared dormitories with bunk beds and two double room available to volunteers in the hostel. Each room has a bathroom, comfortable beds, a wardrobe and shelves where you can store your personal belongings. In addition, each guest has a safe that can be secured with a lock. We try to divide the rooms by gender, but we cannot always guarantee this when the occupancy is high. If you would like to have a private room (for a surcharge), please let us know in the registration form.
Our cook will prepare breakfast for you: eggs and pancakes and our daily breakfast specials. You can also choose from tea, coffee, bread, margarine, honey, peanut butter, jam, eggs, fruit and vegetables. Dinner is cooked for you and there are various dishes from Tanzanian and Western cuisine. We always have vegetarian/ vegan options, and we can cater for all dietary restrictions and requirements. If you also want to buy other groceries, there is a refrigerator and shelves where you can store your purchases.
