Empower Women and Communities
Support sustainable change through skill-building, health education, and entrepreneurship programs.
Why Volunteering in Empowerment in Tanzania Matters
Empowerment projects provide women and underserved communities with the skills, knowledge, and resources they need to lead independent, successful lives. From entrepreneurship training to health education, these initiatives address systemic challenges and foster resilience and self-reliance.
“From January to March, I’ve been in Arusha to do my volunteer work with Viva Tanzania. From the first moment I felt super comfortable, got picked up from the airport and was cordially received. Already beforehand I had email contact with Tizia and we talked about possible projects. When I was in Arusha I even decided that I want to see a second project which was no problem and super easy. Before I visited them, the projects were informed and was brought there the first day. I felt perfectly looked after the whole time. Also the accommodation was very good, all the guests got breakfast and a very delicious dinner. At the weekends or at the time we weren’t in our projects, we went on trips or in the city together. All in all I had a great time, and a super stay in Arusha. I would definitely go there again and can recommend Viva Tanzania to everybody who wants to visit Tanzania.”

Home of Malaika's Sewing Group
Home of Malaika’s Sewing Group is a vibrant initiative where creativity meets empowerment. Meeting every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10 AM to 1 PM, this program supports 12 women from economically challenging backgrounds by teaching sewing, jewelry-making, and other creative skills. The handcrafted products these women create are sold locally and at markets in Germany, providing them with a vital monthly income. Through business training and microloans from Take a Malaika e.V., they gain the tools to start their own businesses, boosting their self-confidence and independence. Volunteers are encouraged to join and support these talented women, whether by assisting with jewelry making, helping with designs, or even bonding over music during sessions. Home of Malaika's Ulinzi Wa Kike
Imagine missing school simply because you don’t have access to basic menstrual hygiene products. This is the reality for many schoolgirls in Tanzania, leading to absenteeism, academic struggles, and even dropping out. The "Ulinzi Wa Kike Project, "Protection for Women”, was launched in 2022 to address this critical issue. Through this initiative, we teach schoolgirls how to sew reusable pads and provide vital menstrual hygiene education. These workshops empower girls to stay in school with confidence. As a volunteer, you’ll support these impactful sessions, helping ensure that no girl’s education is interrupted due to lack of resources. You’ll assist with sewing workshops, engage in educational discussions, and witness first-hand how your efforts can create lasting change. By joining us, you’ll contribute to transforming lives and fostering equal educational opportunities. Make a difference and volunteer with the Ulinzi Wa Kike Project and help empower girls in Tanzania to embrace their education and their future.

“What an incredible experience! From the moment my friends and I applied to this volunteer project we had support. We had all our questions answered in a timely manner since day 1 of our application. On our arrival, we immediately felt comfortable and most importantly safe. Our hostel was always tidy due to our amazing Mamas (who are doing excellent job at keeping the hostel presentable) and were able to accommodate my friends and I’s request to be together in one room. We were guided to the town on our first day and taught us how to get around from our hostel to our volunteer project. They told us all the necessary information needed to get by. In the hostel there are other volunteers under Viva Tanzania who stay in the hostel. We definitely got along and also enhanced our first volunteer experience. Everyone gave invaluable tips! Our Volunteer project was amazing!! These ladies had so much ambition/ potential, they can go far in this world! I can confidently say all the previous and present volunteers have made am impact on them- emotionally, physically and mentally/ intellectually. On the weekends, we were able to arrange crazy fun activities which other volunteers from other projects under Viva Tanzania NGO can join. I highly recommend this project to anyone and I would definitely go back!”
