The Project

The Meru District Hospital is a large hospital with a capacity of 110 in bed patients. On average, 200 patients are provided for daily. The hospital covers all areas of modern medical care. Among others there is a paediatrics, HIV/Aids-, malaria- and tuberculosis-clinic, eye and dental care, mental health and physiotherapy, a maternity ward and over 1.000 operations are performed annually.

Your work

Your work varies and depends heavily on your interests and your previous knowledge. Under the guidance of the local doctors and care takers you will take over various tasks, such as patient care, assistance with operations and such. For all interns and volunteers from the hospital, an individual work plan is created so that you know exactly which your tasks are and this is also how optimal care can be guranteed.

Previous knowledge

Previous experiences are an advantage but not a requirement. Whether as a practical term, internship or volunteer work before studying, anyone who has a quick apprehension is welcomed in the hospital.

To work in the hospital you should be vaccinated against all major diseases. Furthermore, working here involves extra costs for the use of the material / instruments and your incorporation and management. Up to six weeks you are asked to pay 150$, whereby 50$ of it are covered by your project donation. Every additional month will cost 50$.
